Welcome to this week's edition of Just a Few Things, where I share just a few things from the week that have inspired, motivated, interested or made me stop and think.
Why does Just a Few Things matter? Because we often find inspiration in the most unexpected of places. Maybe you'll see something in this week's edition that spurs you to action, inspires you to read something new or maybe you'll be moved to share a thing or two from your week with us!
And if you're thinking “wait, what does this have to do with flags?” Well, it has absolutely nothing to do with flags. Combat Flags has always been about more than flags - it's about community, sharing ideas and constant improvement. Let’s get to it.
What I've been reading | The Wisdom of the Bullfrog
A friend recently sent me a leadership manual by Admiral McRaven titled "The Wisdom of the Bullfrog." The book draws on Admiral McRaven's remarkable 40-year career as a Navy SEAL to provide readers with invaluable leadership lessons. From commanding high-stakes combat operations to handling ethical dilemmas and organizational transitions, McRaven offers profound insights through engaging anecdotes. This clear-eyed piece of writing explores the essential leadership traits that distinguish the good from the truly great, making it a must-read for anyone seeking to excel in their leadership roles.
What I've been listening to | Death Cab for Cutie
Somehow in my youth I missed Death Cab for Cutie... but thanks to a new episode of the
Broken Record Podcast, I've found them. It's funny, though, in that a handful of their songs have been played in the background of significant moments in my life and I never knew it. If you aren't familiar,
Death Cab for Cutie is an indie rock band formed in 1997 in Bellingham, Washington. Their emotive and introspective lyrics, led by Ben Gibbard's distinctive vocals, have garnered a dedicated fan base. Hits like "I Will Follow You into the Dark" and "Transatlanticism" have contributed to their critical acclaim and success. Over the years, they have remained influential and respected in the indie rock music scene.
Something you should know | Hats are back!
Not to make this a sales pitch, but the Combat Flags Patch Hats are finally back in stock. They've been a fan favorite since Combat Flags relaunched and sold out a few weeks ago, but they're back in stock now and you can pick from 1 of 4 camo options to customize your patch hat with.
Alright, that's it for this week's edition of Just a Few Things. I hope you've been inspired to try something new, read a book, reflect on your week or listen to a new podcast.
Please feel free to drop a comment or email with a thing or two from your week that I can share with others!
Have a good one!
-Dan
